3D Online Motion Compensation

چکیده
In the heavy ion therapy project at GSI a C ion beam is used to apply extremely volume conformal dose distributions to cancer patients. Volume conformity means that the dose distribution is shaped precisely to the contours of the tumour taking into account all medical needs. This is achieved by dividing the target volume into small subvolumes (voxels) and optimizing the number of particles per voxel to yield the best conformity [1]. Any target motion (e. g. breathing-related) shifts the voxel position during the irradiation. If not corrected the applied dose distribution will be heavily distorted. In order to expand the conformal therapy to the thorax and other cyclic moving regions of the body, the target motion has to be actively compensated in real-time. This is possible because the maximum scanning speed is much greater than the target motion.

Status of the 3D-online motion compensation system for ion therapy
Introduction Scanned ion beam techniques proved to be an accurate method in radiation therapy with a high degree of conformity [1]. Since 1997 the carbon ion treatment unit at GSI has treated more than 330 patients with stationary tumours using a raster scanning system. In case of moving organs, however, it is necessary to mitigate interplay between organ motion and scanned beam. In order to ac...

Dynamic overlay of 3D models onto 2D X-ray images has important applications in image guided interventions. In this paper, we present a novel catheter tracking for motion compensation in the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). To address such challenges as catheter shape and appearance changes, occlusions, and distractions from cluttered backgrounds, we present an adaptive linear di...
متن کاملCoding of 3D moving medical data using a 3D warping technique
A novel motion compensation algorithm for the coding of 3D image sequences is presented. The temporal correlation existing between two successive in time 3D data sets is exploited using a 3D cube matching algorithm (CMA). In order to cope with more complex motions and to adapt compensation to the high activity regions, a 3D warping based motion estimation technique is introduced. Simulation res...
متن کاملDepth-Layer-Based Patient Motion Compensation for the Overlay of 3D Volumes onto X-Ray Sequences
A novel depth-layer based patient motion compensation approach for 2D/3D overlay applications is introduced. Depth-aware tracking enables automatic detection and correction of patient motion without the iterative computation of digitally reconstructed radiographs (DRR) frame by frame. Depth layer images are computed to match and reconstruct 2D features into 2D+ space. Using standard 2D tracking...
